Converting days to hours is useful across a surprisingly wide range of situations. Shift workers planning coverage need to know how many hours a five-day rotation represents. Software engineers calculating Unix timestamp offsets multiply days by 86,400 seconds, but first need the hour count as an intermediate step. Billing consultants converting multi-day engagements to hourly rates need exact totals. Teachers checking how many instructional hours a school term contains multiply days by the hours per day. This calculator handles all of these by multiplying any day value — including decimals like 1.5 or 2.75 — by the fixed 24 hours in a day and returning the precise result.
How It Works
The formula is Hours = Days × 24. One day is defined as exactly 24 hours regardless of daylight saving time, since the calculation works on standard civil days rather than clock-wall elapsed time. Decimal inputs are fully supported — 1.5 days returns 36 hours, 0.25 days returns 6 hours, and 365.25 days (accounting for leap years) returns 8,766 hours. The result is displayed to two decimal places to preserve precision for fractional day inputs. No rounding occurs at intermediate steps, so chaining this conversion with further calculations will not accumulate rounding error.
