Hourly pay and annual salary are the two most common ways employers quote compensation, and comparing them requires a reliable conversion. Job seekers evaluating offers, employees negotiating raises, HR professionals benchmarking roles, and workers budgeting annual expenses all need to translate between the two. The standard method multiplies the hourly wage by hours per week and then by 52 weeks — assuming a full-year schedule. This calculator performs that conversion and also returns monthly and weekly income breakdowns, giving a complete picture at all time horizons. Part-time workers can adjust the hours per week to model their specific schedule, and the monthly income figure is especially useful for budgeting rent, mortgage payments, and monthly bills.
How It Works
Weekly income = Hourly wage × Hours per week. Annual salary = Weekly income × 52. Monthly income = Annual salary ÷ 12. The factor of 52 represents the 52 weeks in a calendar year. This calculation assumes the employee works all 52 weeks without unpaid leave — the same assumption used in most employment benchmarking and salary comparison contexts. The monthly figure divides annual salary by 12, producing a figure slightly different from multiplying weekly pay by 4 (which would give only 48 weeks). Using the ÷ 12 approach matches how monthly salaries are typically stated and how monthly budgeting is typically done.
