Time estimates and deadlines are often quoted in hours — a software project might be scoped at 120 hours, a shift might run 36 hours, or a regulatory limit might be expressed as 2,000 hours per year. Converting these hour totals into days, workdays, and weeks gives the figure human-scale meaning. This calculator handles both calendar time and working time: calendar days divide by 24 (every hour of every day) while workdays divide by your chosen shift length (6, 7, 7.5, 8, 10, or 12 hours) and workweeks assume a standard 5-day week. Both views are useful — calendar time for logistics and SLAs, working time for project planning and labor cost estimation.

How It Works

Calendar days = Total hours ÷ 24. Calendar weeks = Total hours ÷ 168 (24 hours × 7 days). Remaining hours after full days = fractional part of calendar days × 24. Total minutes = Total hours × 60. Workdays = Total hours ÷ workday hours (the selected shift length). Workweeks = Workdays ÷ 5 (a standard 5-day working week). The calendar outputs treat time as continuous — 48 hours is exactly 2 days regardless of whether those hours include nights or weekends. The working-time outputs use your chosen shift length to give a practical labor-time equivalent, helping translate raw hours into a project timeline that accounts for how many hours are worked per day.

Examples

48-Hour Deadline
A common support SLA or turnaround time.
Result: 2 calendar days, 6 workdays (at 8 hrs/day), 1.2 workweeks.
100-Hour Project
A scoped project estimate.
Result: 4.17 calendar days, 12.5 workdays, 2.5 workweeks.
2000 Hours
A standard annual work-hour budget.
Result: 83.33 calendar days, 250 workdays, 50 workweeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between calendar days and workdays?
Calendar days divide by 24 and count every hour including nights and weekends — a 48-hour deadline is exactly 2 calendar days. Workdays divide by your shift length and represent how many working days the hours span, excluding nights and weekends from the count.
Can I convert fractional hours?
Yes — enter decimal hours like 7.5 for 7 hours 30 minutes, or 37.25 for 37 hours 15 minutes. The calculator handles decimals correctly throughout all outputs.
Why do I need to select hours per workday?
Workday length varies by industry — standard office work is 8 hours, nursing and industrial shifts are often 12 hours, and part-time roles might be 6 or 7 hours. Selecting the correct shift length makes the workdays and workweeks outputs meaningful for your specific context.
