When you work more than your standard scheduled hours, your employer typically compensates you at a higher rate. This Overtime Pay Calculator helps you determine exactly how much you will earn by combining your standard wages with any overtime hours worked. Enter your hourly rate, the number of regular and overtime hours, and choose the applicable overtime multiplier — time-and-a-half (1.5x), double time (2.0x), or holiday triple time (3.0x) — to see your regular pay, overtime pay, and gross total side by side. Understanding your exact overtime earnings is important for budgeting, verifying paycheck accuracy, and evaluating whether picking up extra shifts is worthwhile given your personal financial goals and any tax bracket considerations for higher earnings periods. Workers in industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, and retail frequently encounter overtime, and knowing the financial value of those extra hours helps you negotiate schedules, plan household budgets, and make informed decisions about whether additional shifts align with your income targets.
How It Works
The calculator breaks the total paycheck into two components. Regular pay is found by multiplying the hourly rate by the number of regular hours worked. The overtime rate is then determined by multiplying the base hourly rate by the selected overtime multiplier — for example, $20/hr × 1.5 gives an overtime rate of $30/hr. Overtime pay is that elevated rate multiplied by the number of overtime hours. Finally, regular pay and overtime pay are added together to produce the gross total pay. The effective overtime hourly rate is also displayed so you can see exactly what each extra hour is worth.
