The calculator first converts the discount percentage to a decimal by dividing by 100. It then multiplies that decimal by the original price to calculate the exact monetary amount saved. Subtracting the savings amount from the original price gives the final discounted price. For example, a 25% discount on $80 works as: 25 ÷ 100 = 0.25, then 0.25 × $80 = $20 saved, and $80 − $20 = $60 final price. Equivalently, you can multiply the original price by (1 − discount/100) in one step: $80 × 0.75 = $60. Note that if multiple sequential discounts apply, you cannot add the percentages together — each discount must be applied to the previous reduced price in turn.
