Pace Per Mile Calculator
Calculate your pace per mile and per kilometre from a distance in miles and total time.
Enter your values and click Calculate
Pace per mile is the standard running metric in the United States and is widely used in the United Kingdom. Enter your distance in miles and your total running time in minutes to get your pace per mile and the equivalent pace per kilometre, both formatted in MM:SS. Having both values side by side is especially useful when comparing race results from events that report in different units, or when following training plans written in the opposite system. Common reference distances are included in the input hint: a 5K is 3.107 miles, a 10K is 6.214 miles, and a half marathon is 13.1 miles, making it straightforward to enter a standard race distance without needing to convert first. Tracking your mile pace consistently across different run types — easy runs, tempo efforts, and long runs — gives you a clear map of your fitness zones and helps you identify whether specific workout types are producing the pacing improvements your training plan targets.
How It Works
The calculator converts your total time from minutes to seconds. It then divides total seconds by your distance in miles to produce the pace per mile in seconds-per-mile. For the companion kilometre pace, the mile distance is converted to kilometres using the internationally defined factor of 1.60934 km per mile, and the same total seconds are divided by that value. Both outputs are formatted as MM:SS per unit, matching the standard display in running apps, GPS watches, and official race results. Enter fractional minutes for precise times — 90.5 for one hour, thirty minutes, and thirty seconds. For full-hour increments, simply multiply: 2 hours is 120 minutes, 3 hours is 180 minutes.
