Mile Time Calculator
Calculate your mile time from a known pace or convert between pace and speed.
Enter your values and click Calculate
Knowing your mile time is a core benchmark in running fitness. This calculator accepts your pace in either minutes per kilometer or minutes per mile, then computes your projected mile time, pace in the alternate unit, estimated 5K finish time, and speed in both kilometers per hour and miles per hour. Runners use it to set realistic race goals, calibrate treadmill speeds to match outdoor performance, and track training progress over weeks of consistent training. Coaches use it to assign training zones and pacing targets for interval, tempo, and easy workouts. Race planners use it to estimate finishing times when planning multi-distance events. Because international running events use metric pacing while US road races use miles, this calculator bridges both systems simultaneously. Whether you run purely by feel and want to attach numbers to your effort, or follow a structured training plan requiring both metric and imperial references, this calculator delivers all key outputs in a single calculation.
How It Works
The calculator works in two directions depending on which pace unit you select. If you enter a pace in minutes per kilometer, it multiplies by 1.60934 (the number of kilometers per mile) to derive your pace per mile, which becomes your mile time. If you enter minutes per mile, it divides by 1.60934 to find your per-kilometer pace. From the per-kilometer pace, the 5K projection is calculated by multiplying by 5. Speed in km/h is found by dividing 3,600 seconds by your seconds-per-kilometer pace. Speed in mph is found by dividing 3,600 by your seconds-per-mile pace. All results display in minutes and seconds format.
